James:  Chiasui Chen. Actress. SAG and AFTRA, she's a member of. How long has this been
going on?
Chiasui:  Since I came to New York in 2001.
James:   2001. From?
Chiasui:  Taiwan.
James:   Were you trained over there in the arts?
Chiasui:  Yes. I went to college for music. And I fell in love with acting and started doing it in
Taiwan.

。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

James: Okay. We have a clip. What do we see on the clip? What've you got?
Chiasui:   It's called "Coming Home".
James:    Okay. Let's take a look.
James:  Ahh. (Read Resume) And here're different roles you did. Chinese Buddhist?
Chiasui:  Yes, that's a short film I did here in New York.
James:   Okay. "You Are What You Eat". Are you a believer in that?
Chiasui:   Yes. (Nod) I am.

。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

James:  What's your happy moment in filmmaking?
Chiasui:  The happy moment? (Think) When the light goes up.
James:   When the light goes up. Okay. (Reading)"The Child Within"
Chiasui:  Yes. It's a feature. We're submitting it to festivals now.
James:   In what language is that? English?
Chiasui:  English. But I played a Chinese woman, so I do English and Mandarin both in the
film.
James:  Oh! So we're gonna check you out! Is your Mandarin slipping away?
Chiasui:  (Laugh) A little bit!
James:  (Reading) Now. You say your language is Taiwanese. Why do you say that?
Chiasui:  'Cause it's a different dialect from Mandarin or Cantonese.
James:   Really? That much?
Chiasui:  Very much. You couldn't understand each other. There's no way.
James:  (Reading) And you also do Shakespeare! What role did you play?
Chiasui:  I played Sulis, a fairy in "The Tempest" and I won the Best Cameo.
James:   Very good.

。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

James:   Is getting parts in New York difficult for Asian workers?
Chiasui:  It's not easy.
James:  Not easy. How many films are made here in New York? Is there people cast for Asian
film here? Usually they come to film. Sometimes they do sequences here.
Chiasui:  Very few.
James:   Far and between.

。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

Chiasui:  Now I'm actually producing a short film. 'Cause I found since there aren't many
Asians and you're Americans, how can you write things about Asians? You don't
understand it.
James: No. That's your advantage.
Chiasui:  that's my responsibility actually.
